We were still unable to get my cable free from the selector, Dominic again offered me his bike but I thought it best to go to the bike shop with him, which was a few miles back in England.
We were there by 9:00am, they looked at it straight away and managed to remove the jammed cable a few minutes later it was re-assembled and road tested.
I had a pleasant surprise when it came to paying the bill, he said "We don't charge labour for cyclists doing End to End". The bill for the job was £5.00.
Thankyou, once again to BIKESEVEN, LONGTOWN, ENGLAND. Service like this is rare these days, I would advise anyone passing through the area to pay them a visit. Dominic then drove me back to Scotland to the Ecclefechan Hotel. I started the ride at 10:30am 2 hours behind the others
The day was mainly overcast with outbreaks of light rain but I was fortunate enough to miss all the showers.
Although it was a long ride the course was not too challenging, a 6 mile climb out of Moffat was fairly gentle with a breeze on the tail funneling up the valley with spectacular views back down the valley. We had a section across the moors where there was not a soul in sight for miles. Then an undulating into Motherwell.
We are staying at the Innkeepers Lodge, which is in Strathclyde Park.
