Daily Blog :-
Over night light rain continued for the first hour and a half of the ride, temperature remained under 10C for most of the day, the easterly wind was light but as it backed to SE it picked up giving us a tail wind forn the last third of the course.
Very little sun until late in the afternoon.
Once again 5 of us started at a good pace, the first section being mainly downhill, at 29 miles I managed to break my rear mech cable, I rode on a mile to Langwathby.
Chris was carrying a spare cable but we managed to get it jammed in the slot without indexing it correctly, upshot bike out of commision with a new cable jammed in the mechanism, no bike shops open on a Sunday, Dominic (Bike Adventures) will take it to a bike shop tomorrow.
Dominic let me use his Scott Scale 35 mountain bike, which is as light as mine, it was a very good ride, I eventually caught up with the others at 60 miles and managed to keep with them for the rest of the way.
Dominic has completed the full South Downs run in under 12 hours on this bike.
We had a very fast finish with a tail wind on reaching Scotland, we are staying at the Ecclefechan Hotel.
I did not have time for many photos.
We are now in Scotland - Counties - Cumbria - Dumfrieshire.
